I have had a few people ask me about the letters that I have written to the creditors on Errick's behalf. I want to tell you that I am a researcher, so I dig and dig until I find things. The bible states this very important fact, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." Hosea 4:6. Now in those days, people were rejecting the Lord and in return their children were forgotten, so now let's bring that to today.
Lack of Knowledge
During the 5yrs of me being a single mother, I made poor financial decisions because I honestly did not trust God to provide for me and Kaleb. I ran up credit cards and when I lost my job, I just did not pay them. Long story short, I filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year. Was it the Christian thing to do? Well, I did pray and seek God. Errick also prayed on my behalf. My debt alone was over $120K (this includes student loans). One main thing I did was repent for my bad financial decisions and not trusting God. No one ever says to repent for bad money decisions, but I am telling you today. I asked the Lord to give me wisdom and since then I have been able to start over. The bankruptcy will unfortunately follow me for 10yrs and granted my student loans did not go away, but God gave me a fresh start. And I want people to avoid bankruptcy. I had lack of knowledge in trusting Jesus in that area. I perished financially before meeting my husband. However, God gave me a spouse who is really good with finances and for the first time in my life, I know how to save and budget. I am, in turn, teaching him how to build his credit. He never used credit before meeting me and had no credit, which is just as bad as having bad credit. Again, lack of knowledge.
:::Let me make this crystal clear:::
WE KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY COMES IN AND GOES OUT OF THIS HOUSE!
We do not hide money and we have seen increase in working together.
The Credit Letters
I did not know that a person could in fact fix their own credit without paying hundreds of dollars to do so. Please utilize FREE credit services...we use Credit Karma. It is pretty accurate as far as accounts, but I am still not sure on how accurate it is for scoring. So there is a website I used to create the letters. That website is http://www.creditinfocenter.com. You want to start with a validation letter if your debt is in collections. Basically, you send a letter asking creditors if they have the right to collect your debt. There are series of things I asked for and you must give them 30 days to respond. If you do not receive a response in 30 days, they must, by law, remove their collection. Now if they validate the debt, you have 30 days to respond back and a good way to this is to let them know how you will repay it. For instance, if you have a bill for $200, you may want to make 4 payments, but make sure you tell them that you will pay the debt with a guarantee from them that they will remove it off of your credit once it is paid (do this in writing...again allow 30 days) and then be sure to send your payments. I will try to attach our letter...be sure to put your name and address on your letters at the top under the date. Also, put your signature at the bottom of each letter. MAIL ALL LETTERS CERTIFIED RETURN RECEIPT. You will need proof of dates for some companies and mailing certified allows you to see when a person signed for your letter.
